DIRECTIONS
BY ROAD
From the A27 at the roundabout to the West side of Lewes take the South exit signed Kingston - with a 6’6” width restriction (not the Kingston route towards Lewes, avoiding the width restriction).
The road runs parallel to the A27 and then bears left under the Railway Bridge and up a hill. On the crest of the hill (shortly after 30mph and a crossroads signs) and immediately before the KINGSTON village sign, there is a small crossroads. Turn right, up a slope, into Kingston Ridge, which is a ‘no through road’.
Slowly cross 5 speed control humps and Bethel is the last but one house on the right, at the foot of the Downs.
WALKING OFF THE SOUTH DOWNS WAY
Directions to Bethel, walking East to West
When Kingston comes into view do not be tempted to come down too soon - unless you would like to call in at the pub before coming here! There is an enticing grassy path curving down round the hill, which leads to a stile and goes on down a very steep path to The Street, for the pub and the church.
For Bethel, continue along the top of the hill, passing a gate and cattle grid off to your left leading south down into a valley. Stay on the Way and go through the next gate and, about 50 yards further on, you will see a marker post. Bear right at this post and you will come to the top of a chalk track that leads down to Kingston Ridge. Bethel is the second house that you come to on the left.

Directions to Bethel, walking West to East
After crossing the A27 follow the path up the hill and then left towards Lewes and Kingston.
At the end of the field there are clumps of gorse bushes, two dewponds and a gate. After going through the gate the direct (and steeper) route down is straight ahead / bear left.
If you would prefer a less steep track, bear right and follow the path along the top until you come to the next marker post (which is before the next gate). Here, turn hard left and you will come to the top of a less steep chalk track down to Kingston Ridge.
Both these tracks merge at the bottom of the hill and Bethel is the second house that you come to on the left.
